Melco Audio launched its first SSD-based mid-range digital music library N50-S38.

The Japanese-made model has a 1.7 mm thick heavy-duty full-width chassis, an IEC power inlet with a noise filter and a classic Melco shape, and an OLED display with button control. Storage includes a 3.84 TB SSD drive.

The connection range is very wide. The rear panel includes four specific USB ports: USB 3.0; expansion and backup, plus a dedicated USB DAC output, which can be connected to a USB DAC, USB DAC-equipped amplifier or powered speakers at any time.

These ports enable USB devices to be connected and operated without configuration, including importing or playing music from storage devices, HDD/SSD drives and CD drives/rippers; use Melco's E100 (or other) storage drives for capacity expansion; and backup to HDD/SSD drive.

The library also has a dedicated dual Ethernet port: in addition to the LAN port, there is a dedicated player port, ostensibly to minimize the noise in the music signal, and provide direct, high data for network audio players Integrity of connection.

The N50-S38 can be connected to streaming media via Ethernet using the Player port, or used as a local player with a dedicated USB DAC output.

N50-S38 supports Roon Ready, is compatible with DSD, and provides application control via DLNA/UPnP (in USB DAC mode), and supports TIDAL, Qobuz and vTuner streaming media. Qobuz Downloader and HighResAudio.com also support direct high-resolution downloads without a PC.

The system runs Melco Crown's smart music library suite, including MinimServer and SongKong software.

The N50-S38 is available in black or silver finishes and is priced at £4,999. The release is through audiophile digital music masters. Phone: (0)1252 784525.
