Obtaining IEC 62443-4-1 certification shows that EtherWAN is determined to maintain customer network security.

With the rapid development of Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT), more and more OT/IT systems (PLC, ICS/SCADA equipment and supporting components) are connected to IP networks. This greatly promotes digital innovation, but it also brings huge risks in network security. Information security has become an important link in the construction of intelligent manufacturing systems. EtherWAN, a global leader in industrial communications and networking, cooperated with Bureau Veritas International Inspection Group in November 2020 and successfully obtained its first IEC 62443-4-1 certification in July 2021.

IEC 62443 is a network security standard framework tailored for IACS (Industrial Automation Control System), which is especially suitable for the OT (Operational Technology) industry. It was proposed by ANSI (American National Standards Institute)/ISA (American International Standards Institute) and adopted by ISO/IEC. In the future, the IEC 62443 standard will define basic safety standards in the development of industrial control, transportation and other infrastructure.

Maggie Chao, general manager of EtherWAN Taiwan, and Pascal Le-Ray, general manager of Technology Products Taiwan of Bureau Veritas Consumer Services.

Pascal Le-Ray, general manager of Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Service Division, Technology Products Division, Taiwan, pointed out that, driven by the trend of smart applications, especially after 5G commercialization in 2019, device connectivity is becoming more and more popular. Industrial fields such as manufacturing systems, autonomous vehicles, and Internet of Vehicles are also accelerating. To enhance system security, a wide range of organizations have begun to establish information security standards for connected devices. IEC 62443 is currently the most accepted standard.

Maggie Chao, general manager of EtherWAN, said that with the rise of Industry 4.0 and IIoT, multiple connections between industrial control systems, computer operations, and server services have become the norm, and network security is the focus of attention today. EtherWAN continues to pay attention to customer needs and actively devotes itself to the development of network security technology. Obtaining the IEC 62443-4-1 certification is an important milestone, proving the high specification requirements of EtherWAN products and the company's determination to maintain customer network security.

As for the importance of IEC 62443 to Taiwan's industry, Pascal further stated that OT cyber attacks have occurred from time to time in recent years, and the global industry is paying more and more attention to information security. In this case, it is particularly important for Taiwanese manufacturers to obtain certification for their products in order to grasp the corresponding business opportunities of intelligent manufacturing.

Obtaining the IEC62443-4-1 certificate shows that EtherWAN's product development and life cycle management procedures are fully in line with industry standards. From product planning, specification definition, design, implementation, verification and confirmation, mass production, delivery, to the operation and maintenance stage including software and hardware patches, all process stages and tasks are in compliance with the guidelines of IEC 62443-4-1 . It not only improves the efficiency of product development, but more importantly, it further improves and guarantees product quality. In addition, this also shows that EtherWAN has the ability to respond immediately to product security incidents. Through close cooperation with customers, the adoption of a "defense in depth" strategy can reduce the impact and consequences of security-related incidents.

After passing the first milestone, EtherWAN will move towards the second achievement-the implementation of IEC 62443-4-2 security requirements in EtherWAN security products. EtherWAN will cooperate with customers to fully understand the requirements of the products to be used in their application environment, conduct risk assessment and threat modeling analysis of potential cyber security threats, complete the corresponding cyber security requirements specification (CSRS), and finally implement the Implement CSRS in security. product. EtherWAN customers can obtain reliable industrial-grade network security solutions from EtherWAN's security products and professional help.
