Nexperia (formerly part of NXP) announced the launch of a common mode EMI filter with integrated ESD protection for USB 3.1 Type C, HDMI 2.0 and MIPI M-PHY interfaces.

PCMFxUSB3S, PCMFxHDMI2S and PESDxUSB3S are parts, where x is the number of channels. They have the same footprint as products that only provide ESD protection.

"System engineers will benefit from using a single device instead of two-common mode filters and ESD protection components. Since these two solutions are provided in the same package, the designer can determine at a later stage whether EMI filtering needs to be included without the need Worry about PCB layout rotation," Nexperia said. "The integrated common-mode filter has a differential passband over 6GHz."

The ESD protection diode of the brand TrEOS is said to have low capacitance to maintain excellent signal integrity, low clamping voltage and low dynamic resistance. "By using active silicon controlled rectifiers, these parameters will not be affected. The result is that the turn-on time of about 0.5ns enables the device to withstand up to 20kV contact discharge. This exceeds the level 4 of the IEC 61000-4-2 standard ," the company said.

According to the company, the latest high-performance transceiver ICs increasingly require series inductors to achieve 15kV IEC61000-4-2 system-level contact ESD discharge robustness. The PCMF series provide this kind of protective inductance to prevent common mode or single-ended noise (such as ESD or surge pulse) without interfering with differential USB3.1 or HDMI2.0 signals.
